Meet The Officers

Student Veterans Organization Club Officers

Bryan Cochran, President

Bryan is a United States Marine who served four years as a Combat Engineer with 1st Combat Engineer Battalion stationed at Camp Pendleton, CA. During his time in the Marine Corps, he served in two tours of war, one to Iraq and one to Afghanistan. Bryan is a fourth year transfer student from Saddleback Community College currently majoring in City and Regional Planning and pursuing a professional certificate in Construction Management. As a founding staff member of the VSC, Bryan is proud of the improvement in providing resources to student veterans on campus and looks forward to helping more veterans in the future. He has also been married to his wife Jessica for 9 years​. 




Jose Alvarez, Vice President of Veteran Affairs

Jose is a United States Marine. He served 5 years of active duty and last year served as a reservist while attending Cal Poly. During his time in the Marine Corps, he served in three tours. Jose is a fourth year Agribusiness transfer student from Allan Hancock College. At Cal Poly, Jose is involved with the Latinos in Agriculture Club, where he serves as an Agricultural Council representative. He is also a member of the SCUBA Club. Jose is very involved with the veteran community as an officer of the Student Veterans Organization and a member of the Marine Corps League Chapter 1340.




Ariel Crisostomo, Vice President of Dependent Affairs

Ariel is currently working on a B.S. in Biomedical Engineering with a minor in Psychology at Cal Poly. Her father has been serving in the U.S. Air Force for 22 years, and her family has been stationed all over the country at Luke, Nellis, Lackland, Andrews, and Travis Air Force Bases. Having been a dependent of the military all her life, Ariel hopes to help create community among veterans and other dependents on campus with the SVO and as a member of the Veterans Success Center Staff. Ariel is a founding staff member and has played a major role in establishing the VSC as we know it today.




Annika Yandell

Richard Martinez-Escobar, Treasurer

Richard Martinez-Escobar served four years as an Aviation Electronics Technician in the United States Navy. He was stationed in Naval Air Weapons Station China Lake, CA with squadron VX-9. He is a second-year transfer student from Monterey Peninsula College, and is currently striving for a B.S. in Aerospace Engineering. He is part of other clubs on campus such as the following: PolySat, CPinterSEP, and SHPE. Richard looks forward to working with other veterans to create a smooth transition to life at Cal Poly. 










Annika Yandell

Sarah Morningred, Secretary

Sarah is a third-year English major, with minors in Spanish and Psychology. She has worked in the Veterans Success Center since Spring of 2015. Her favorite part of working in the Veterans Success Center is forming relationships with Cal Poly's student-veterans and dependents. This year, Sarah is working as the VSC Head of Communications and Advancement and SVO Secretary. Her goal for this year is to help find and create new opportunities for student-veterans and dependents at Cal Poly. 







Annika Yandell, Public Relator

Annika is working on her B.S. in Psychology at Cal Poly. Her father has been an F-16 Pilot in the US Air Force for 20 years, with the majority of those years spent at Luke Air Force Base, Arizona. She was a member of the Air Force Teen Council from 2013-2015, which gave her a passion for improving the lives of military families through youth programs. Annika has worked at the Veterans Success Center for one year, has served as the Treasurer of the SVO, and is now the SVO's Public Relator. ​






Jillian Zuck, Events Coordinator

Jillian continues her efforts toward a B.S. in Kinesiology, a stepping stone towards a degree in Occupational Therapy. She hopes to one day couple her passions for helping people make the most of their days and the challenges and new perspectives of military life. Neither a veteran nor a dependent, she is excited for the community service, networking, and otherwise unexpected opportunities that accompany working at Cal Poly’s Veterans Success Center. ​






Alexis, Community Service Coordinator

Alexis is working towards a B.S. in Animal Science. She is an Army dependent and hopes to work with therapy animals in treating PTSD. She is excited to be supporting the student veteran and dependent community at Cal Poly with the Student Veterans Organization.
